Denver – Fragile.
That’s the one-word answer I’ve used to describe this edition of the Suns.
Monday night, in game two, the fragile state of the Suns was on display once again., Chris Paul couldn’t make it through the game because of tightness in his groin. Kevin Durant and Deandre Ayton found their way into deep foul trouble. Devin Booker had a near-game-long conversation with the referees, upset over the physical play of the Nuggets. Booker and Bruce Brown of the Nuggets had a verbal altercation late in the game. I expect more with the series shifting back to Phoenix.
It all led to Denver protecting their home court with a 97-87 victory over the Suns to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.
Nothing has happened other than the team with home-court advantage did what they should do. Now the onus falls on the Suns starting Friday night in Game Three. Having three days off couldn’t come at a better time.
The nuts and bolts of it, the Suns offense, didn’t do much to write home about. The three-point shooting was an atrocious 19% (6-31).
The fourth quarter started with the Suns up 3, 73-70. but without Paul running the show, the offense become stagnant and Denver took control Booker, who scored 35 points. Nicola Jokic would finish with 39 points and 15 rebounds.
