The Arizona Wildcats women’s basketball team has had plenty of new this year.
A new head coach in Becky Burke. A new roster coming together.
Part of building that program means the players learning Coach Burke’s style and standards. Most of them are brand new to their head coach.
Not Noelani Cornfield.
The point guard teamed up with Burke at the University of Buffalo and they won 30 games together last year. Now, they’re in the Big 12 ushering in a new era of Arizona basketball.
Lani’s impact on and off the court has been critical for the ‘Cats. She’s third in minutes played in the Big 12 and second assists and steals in the conference as well. She’s also been an extension of Coach Burke on the floor, raising the standard each and every day.
The point guard’s playmaking style fits Burke’s system perfectly, and it’s something she’s done since she was a young player. Cornfield said she played an up-tempo style while growing up in the Haudenosaunee Confederacy of the Seneca Nation in New York.
It’s a community still near and dear to her heart, and she returns often to hold basketball camps for the community’s youth.
She went in-depth on her journey and why Arizona is such a good fit in the video above.
