The truth depends on who you want to believe.
As the NFL owners meeting convenes in the Valley, the Adrian Peterson soap opera continues. It’s a situation where, according to some close to the situation, Peterson wants out of the Twin Cities but the franchise may, or may not, be willing to trade their six-time Pro-Bowler.
One NFL insider believes something vitally important is speaking louder than anything when it comes to Peterson’s NFL future.
“I think the one thing people aren’t paying as much attention to here, that’s important, is the money,” NFL Network’s Albert Breer told Sports360AZ.com in a phone interview this week. “Certainly cap space is drying up across the league and teams have their budgets…each day that passes with Adrian Peterson still on the Vikings’ roster increases the likelihood that he’s going to be a Minnesota Viking in 2015.”
Breer says the Vikings won’t flinch at paying A.P.’s $13 million price tag but others will.
Are the Arizona Cardinals one of those?
That’s yet to be determined but there will likely be more clarity on the issue after the meetings where few, if any, storylines will be bigger.
There may be a bigger hurdle ahead for Minnesota.
The Vikings, who already ruled out the option of waving Peterson, would have to repair their relationship with the star if they don’t opt to trade him away.
“Can they fix that bridge?” Breer questioned. “It’s going to be difficult.”
He could also sit out the season and not play for anyone but it’s clear right now the Vikings are the one’s in control and Peterson’s behavior issues can’t be blamed on the franchise he currently plays for.
