Good football teams have ballplayers, guys who just find ways to make plays no matter the situation.
The Arizona Wildcats just got a ballplayer in Colin Schooler. The 6-foot-2, 220-pound linebacker filled up the stat sheet on both sides of the ball at Mission Viejo High School in California. As a senior, he rushed for 1,161 yards and 19 touchdowns and caught six more. Defensively, he had 77 tackles, two sacks, four tackles for loss and two interceptions for the 11-1 Diablos.
Typically, Wildcats aren’t too fond of Devils, but the Arizona-faithful can make an exception in this case.
Despite the strong stats, the offers took a while to come for Schooler, a three-star linebacker recruit, and Arizona was the only Pac-12 program to offer him. The rest of the conference should have learned when Schooler’s older brother, Brenden, was being recruited. He was an under the radar recruit but found a home at Oregon and played safety for the Ducks, recording 74 tackles and a team-high four interceptions as a freshman this season.
Now that Colin is Tucson-bound, he will look to have a similar trajectory. According to Scout National Recruiting Director Brandon Huffman, Schooler has some “tendencies” that remind him of former Arizona linebacker standout and under-recruited star Scooby Wright.
Sounds like music to Rich-Rod’s ears.
