Micah Harper Breaks Down Commitment to BYU

Arizona Sports News online

Basha defensive back did a little bit of everything for the Bears. He was a versatile defensive back, a big part of the passing game on offense and a returner who could take kicks back to the end zone at any given play.

He now plans to do that for the BYU Cougars after committing to them Monday night.

Harper sports a 3.5 unweighted GPA and held offers from Syracuse, Azusa Pacific, Air Force, Army, Yale, NAU, Dartmouth, Fordham, Montana State, Colgate, South Dakota State, Penn, New Mexico State, Nevada, Lehigh, Princeton, Wyoming, San Diego State, Tulane, UTEP, Navy, BYU and New Mexico.

While he announced a top-six of Syracuse, Air Force, San Diego State, Nevada, Navy and the Cougars in Ocotober, BYU sealed the deal on Harper’s visit last weekend.

Harper said the Cougars preached a family atmosphere, notable alumni network and an opportunity to be a mainstay in the secondary over the coming years.. The Hawaii-native who has been in Arizona since eighth grade also experienced snow for the first time.

The defensive back logged four interceptions in three years of varsity experience and notched 84 solo tackles and 7.5 tackles for loss.

The Cougars have had success recruiting Arizona in recent years. They earned commitments from former Chandler Wolves Gunner Romney and Jacob Conover in recent classes and have put a focus on Chandler linebacker Tate Romney, Red Mountain offensive lineman Jake Griffin and Higley tight end Alex Lines in this year’s class.

Harper caught up with the Venezia’s Pizzeria Recruiting Roundup to discuss his commitment, the role he hopes to play on defense and how playing against Arizona’s best competition will help him at the next level.
