Win-Win…Messi or Team USA coming to Arizona

Arizona Sports News online

We win either way!

Soccer fans of Arizona are in for a treat this week. Tuesday night in Houston, Argentina and USA will meet in the Copa America semi-finals. The loser of that match will be coming to Arizona to play in the third place game next Saturday night at University of Phoenix Stadium. I’ve already heard from several fans who have bought tickets for the match even though it wouldn’t be for a title.

Having Messi play on the University of Phoenix Stadium turf would be pretty cool. He’s arguably the most recognized player in the most popular sport worldwide. His 122-million social media followers(not counting Twitter, which he just joined) puts him only behind Renaldo for the most in all of sports.

I wouldn’t say that the USA side has been stellar in Copa. Remember, they dropped their opening match to Columbia 2-0 earlier this month.

Still, having the red, white and blue play in our city would be special. Either way, this coming week will be yet another big time soccer moment in our growing sports marketplace.
