“Momentum is the belief that you can win. As long as you can harness that feeling…whether something good or bad happens in front of you…you got a chance anywhere.”

Advancing to 2-0 is one thing, doing it in dominant fashion after starting the game down sends a message.

First-year head coach Andy Litten’s fiery energy has rubbed off on his guys as Toros Football beat Saguaro 57-27.

Throwing a pick-six on the first pass attempt of the game can really take the wind out of your “pregame hype” sails – not for Mesa Mountain View.

The Toros’ high-powered offense dropped 23 straight points – representing the grit this team has.

Remembering this moment could prove big for this squad down the line.

“Just keep pushing it, keep pushing through,” quarterback Brady Goodman said. “Just keep on moving the ball and getting first downs.”

“We’re resilient, we’ve worked for this,” senior Beckham Barney said. “Now it’s kinda showing up, so we’re excited about it.”

By halftime, the Toros had surged to a 50-21 lead, leaving little room for a comeback.

Goodman delivered an outstanding performance, throwing for 172 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 44 yards and a touchdown.

“We just have confidence going into every game,” Goodman said.

Putting up that kind of stat line only happens when you know the coaching staff and your teammates have your back. That’s the environment Litten has cultivated at Mesa Mountain View.

“I am a very emotional coach,” Litten said. “I think that we do an excellent job of getting guys to play hard. We develop relationships and we have a lot of fun.”

“He’s fast, he’s competitive, he’s gonna go for it, and he’s gonna do whatever he can to win,” Barney said. “He’s got the most energy on the field.”

That energy isn’t going anywhere as the season only gets tougher.

“Next week, we know we’re playing the old defending champs, we just knocked off the 6A champs,” Litten said. “We’ve got momentum, we believe. We’re ready to go and we can play with anybody.”

We’ll see how far that belief can take the Toros this year.

They’ll head to Liberty for their matchup on Friday at 7 PM.
