‘Lopes up! Wilson puts GCU Baseball in the MLB Draft spotlight…

In 2011, Grand Canyon University President Brian Mueller showed me around his modest west Phoenix campus. Our conversation weaved between academics and athletics. A new building here, a athletic facility there. One of our four kids decided to become a ‘Lope so I followed the growth and felt that GCU stood for “Grand Construction University”.
Those who were either employed or attended Arizona or Arizona State would give me a hard time for paying so much time and attention to the little university that could.
12 years later, GCU baseball shortstop Jacob Wilson was selected Sunday night with the sixth overall pick in the Major League Baseball Draft by the Oakland(Future Las Vegas) A’s. Over the last two seasons, Wilson struck out just 12 times in 492 plate appearances. He hit .412 this past season. Good for GCU and Valley sports…
