Kyson Brown’s Reliability On & Off the Field Could Lead to Expanded Role

When ASU media relations gets an interview request for running back Kyson Brown after a practice, it usually is followed up with a question: “You cool waiting a bit?”

It’s because Brown usually gets some extra reps catching passes or working on his flexibility – a priority of his since last year – but he’ll also usually help bring in any water jugs still on the field to save the Sun Devil support staff some time.

It’s something the Barrett Honors College student said he learned from his parents, and Kenny Dillingham has preached working hard, making good decisions and being a good person.

Check, check, check when it comes to Brown.

While Cameron Skattebo’s workload has been a constant theme throughout the year, the opportunities haven’t come often for Brown and the rest of the Sun Devil backfield, but that hasn’t stopped the running back from taking advantage when they do. He’s averaging 5.7 yards per carry (the same rate as Skattebo) and his 68-yard touchdown reception in the season opener against Wyoming is the longest play from scrimmage this year for the Sun Devils.

Dillingham said he wanted to use this second bye week to look at players who have popped on film and could see expanded roles in the team’s final stretch of the season, and Brown was one of the first players he mentioned.

That will be something to watch over the team’s final five regular season games, but expect Brown to continue to focus on working hard, making good decisions and being a good person over that stretch.
