Arizona Sports News online

19-year-old Michael “Buddy” Kofoid took the Arizona-owned Reinbold/Underwood 19AZ to victory lane in the first Wild Wing Shootout A-Main at Arizona Speedway, holding off the stars of sprint cars such as 10-time World of Outlaws Sprint Car champion Donny Schatz. Kofoid is fresh off a Chili Bowl A-Main appearance and made a late trip to the desert to driver for the USAC National non-wing championship team.

Kofoid started on the pole and lead flag to flag en route to earning the opening night victory in the inaugural Wild Wing Shootout. Donny Schatz, Carson Macedo, Lance Dewease, and Rico Abreu rounded out the top five. The Wild Wing Shootout continues Saturday night for night two of the three-night event.
