ASU Football head coach Kenny Dillingham discussed a plethora of topics in his “Day 0” press conference as the defending Big 12 Champions prepare to defend their crown.

Speaking of that Big 12 title, Dillingham’s “not worried about a championship” as much as his squad’s day-to-day process.

“This league is super competitive.”

3.5 win total between last & first place…the key for Dillingham is in “winning close games, protecting leads, & being prepared to climb back” if they fall behind early.

Dillingham on what wins in big moments:

“The guy that knows the guy next to him’s deepest & darkest secrets… in the biggest moments, it’s the relationships that take the lead… the calmness & confidence when you look around the huddle & think ‘I really don’t know who’s gonna let us down’…you double down on those bonds.”

When talking tight end depth, he mentioned that a good tight end can be a “Draymond Green” type of player in reference to the four-time NBA champion with the Golden State Warriors.

Dillingham feels the TE room is centered around versatility and is full of “a bunch of jacks-of-all-trades.”

The annual Camp Tontozona tradition continues this year as the Sun Devils head to Payson August 6-9.

When Dillingham arrived, he started having players write letters to themselves and bury them in a time capsule at Camp T.

Each visit, they read their letters from the year prior.

He’s interested to see what players preseason expectations were for themselves and the team.

He believes their objectives should be extremely ambitious: “Hope there’s goals they didn’t reach.”

On fans showing up for games – even in the heat – helping develop culture:

“Players will come out of that tunnel, look at the stands & think, ‘Man, it matters here or man, it doesn’t’…our fans dictate that…[the tradition] will carry over.”
