Keeping the big events in Arizona, health nudge, Caitlin and Angel, night golf at the ‘Dunes

Arizona Sports News online

Mega-sporting events aren’t easy to come by.

The Final Four is finally here. The WNBA All-Star game rolls into town in mid-July. In 2026, the NCAA Women’s Final Four will take center stage in Glendale. Last month, the LPGA Tour, NASCAR, and Spring Training were in our backyard. It’s quite a feather in our caps to be, as I like to say, the busiest sports market in America that nobody knows about. We do mega sporting events better than most. A couple of Super Bowls in the last nine years and an NBA All-Star game coming in 2027 show that Phoenix can get the job done, but there’s always competition, so staying ahead is as important as ever. Eventually, sporting venues need to be renovated or replaced. New leaders need to emerge to carry the torch. CEOs must roll up their sleeves and put time and resources into ensuring we are not left behind. Look at how quickly Las Vegas has come onto the scene to bring Formula One, a Super Bowl, and soon an NBA franchise into the fold. Stay focused, stay nimble…

Clingan vs Edey on Monday night. That’s what I want…

Because our industry tends to be lazy, the talking head shows have somehow picked up on the narrative that the Women’s game is better than the men’s game. I guess it’s a different way to fill a segment rather than talking about the Cowboys and Dak Prescott for yet another eight-minutes in early April. Does everything in the talking head world have to turn into “Which is better?” or  “5 things to know”. Clicking out is pretty easy…

I know the women’s game is getting gigantic television ratings, an excellent reason for the sport’s growth. 35 years ago, we had a “ladies’ line” to call in on our talk shows at the Mighty690. Times have certainly changed for the better…

Angel Reese needs to put her phone away. It’s not that hard to cut negative out…

Caitlin Clark wants to ball out. Yep, she does commercials, but I don’t see her spending energy on trying to be a social media influencer. Her influence is on the court. It’s just not that hard…

A gentle nudge: I had my colonoscopy a few weeks back, and they found 12 polyps. After a few nervous days, I was given the all-clear, but I have to have another one a year from now. Again, this is just a simple reminder. We all get busy but don’t get so busy that you put things off for your health.

Southern Dunes is launching night golf on its mini-dunes later this month. It’s a great track, and it should be a hit.

Chris Garagiola sounds great calling Diamondback games on the radio…
