Every week, Scout.com and Sports360az.com recruiting insider Jason Jewell takes us around the state and spotlights the best performances during the high school football season. Here are the stars from round one of the 2013 playoffs.

Player of the Week

* Saguaro’s Luke Rubenzer broke the state’s all-time TD record against Washington. On the night he threw for 256 yards and 6 TDs while rushing for 151 yards and 1 more score.

QBs

* In an upset of Horizon, Zach Werlinger from Basha threw for 453 yards and 3 TDs. He had four 100 yard receivers Rajhan Meriwether, Doc O’Connor, Joe Storm and Ryan Robertson all went over the century mark.

* Junior Emanuel Gant from Tempe threw for 451 yards and 5 TDs.

* Desert Edge’s Anthony Hernandez makes the list again. He threw for 440 yards versus Thunderbird.

* QB battle in the Pinnacle v. Mt. View game. John Clark from Mountain View threw for 329 yards and 4 TDs while Brian Lewerkefrom Pinnacle threw for 321 yards and 6 TDs.

* Liberty junior Tyler Wyatt had 4 rushing TDs and 2 passing against Marana Mt. View.

* Dalton Sneed from Horizon threw for 299 yards and 3 TDs.

* Junior Tyler Bloom from Higley threw for 261 yards and 2 TDs.

* Mt. Pointe’s Antonio Hinojosa threw 3 TD passes, all to Jalen Brown.

* Josh Eckley from Marcos had 338 yards passing, 103 yards rushing and 4 total TDs.

* Chandler’s Bryce Perkins had 299 total yards and 5 TDs.

* Andy Cota from Salpointe threw 3 TDs against Cibola, 2 toCameron Denson.

RBs

* Shadow Ridge RB Chris Salsberry rushed for 317 yards and 5 TDs against Catalina Foothills.

* Taren Morrison from Desert Ridge had 283 yards, and3 TDs against Desert Mountain.

* Horizon’s Luke Quinn rushed for 187 yards and 3 TDs.

* Ryan Velez from Brophy had 185 yards rushing and 2 TDs. He also returned a kickoff 94 yards KO return TD.

* Pinnacle’s Josh Hoekstra rushed for 179 yards and 2 TDs.

* Tyler Whiley from Chaparral rushed for 173 yards and 1 TD and also had 3 receiving TDs against Tolleson.

* Basha’s Rajhan Meriwether had 152 yards rushing, 122 receiving and 4 total TDs.

* Catalina Foothills RB Ty Cruz had 214 yards and 4 TDs against Shadow Ridge.

* Antonio Campanella from Seton Catholic had 4 rushing TDs.

* In an upset of MWC, Isaiah Brittain from Tempe Prep had 121 yards and 2 TDs.

* Sabino RB Zach Joseph had 194 yards and 5 TDs against Tempe.

* Agua Fria’s Marquice Paige had 212 yards against Williams Field.

Receivers

* Christian Kirk from Saguaro had 232 yards rushing, 68 yards receiving and 4 TDs against Washington.

Special Teams/Defense/All-Purpose

* The Hamilton defense had 3 safeties and allowed just 16 total yards.

* Qualen Cunningham from Hamilton had 4 sacks and broke the HHS single-season record.

* Peoria’s Darius Aguire had 90 and 70 yard punt return TDs and a 95 yard KOR TD.
