Brophy head football coach Jason Jewell, who also is head of the Arizona Football Coaches Association, shared his thoughts with Sports360az on the passing of Vista Grande Athletic Director Louie Ramirez
This is not the news I expected to hear Friday morning. It’s not the news any of us expected to hear. Because anytime you ran across Louie Ramirez, it was all smiles and laughs.
I first met Louie through our mutual friend Roy Lopez, and we became friends, friends through the tight knit coaching community in Arizona and colleagues in the AzFCA, he served as vice president over the past few years.
I only knew Louie as someone who advocated for his kids where he was coaching and who cared deeply about high school football in Arizona.
Not one person I have spoken to, and there have been dozens, imagined something like this to happen. Not to one of us. Which makes it even more important to check on each other, care for each other, and love each other. And it’s not easy to do in this macho world of football, where everyone has a tough guy persona.
I will miss my friend Louie. A lot of people are hurting. I am praying for his two little kids in this time.
