Late last night, Arizona State senior cornerback Jack Jones announced that he is returning for another season in Tempe. He is among the first senior Sun Devils to take advantage of the NCAA’s extra year of eligibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A preseason Pac-12 Second Team Selection, Jones played in one game this season against USC, recording five tackles and a pass defended. He was expected to be an anchor of the Sun Devil secondary along with fellow senior and former Chandler High School product Chase Lucas.

However, ASU’s COVID-19 outbreak halted those possibilities, as the program missed its next three games, and Jones was also suspended for the rest of the year due to a violation of team conduct.

If Lucas returns to play alongside Jones, ASU would undoubtedly have one of the top veteran defensive back tandems going into the Pac-12 next season.

Although safety Aashari Crosswell declared for the NFL Draft, the group will have other returners with experience, including defensive backs Jordan Clark, Timarcus Davis, Kejuan Markham, and Keon Markham.

The Sun Devils also have highly-touted athlete Tommi Hill and cornerback Robert Regan entering the program for the 2021 season as incoming freshmen.

Other seniors in the secondary from this past season include Deandre Pierce and Evan Fields.
