With the promotion of Graham Rossini to ASU athletic director, it’s a new chapter for Sun Devil athletics.
Two coaches within the department were able to share their thoughts on the move on Thursday in football coach Kenny Dillingham and baseball coach Willie Bloomquist.
Dillingham pointed to Rossini’s role in getting naming rights for the football stadium as one of the first times he saw his new athletic director at work.
“He’s task-driven,” Dillingham said. “He gets things accomplished. So many times there are people who talk well, people who give good speeches. People who say the right things and then people who get things done.”
Bloomquist has worked closely with Rossini since the new AD’s return to the university three years ago. In Rossini’s first stint with the Sun Devils, he was director of operations for some of ASU baseball’s best teams under Pat Murphy.
“There’s not anyone who cares about ASU sports as much as he does, who is as plugged into the Valley and has the intelligence to handle that job” Bloomquist said. “I’m pumped for him. I’m pumped for our athletic programs.”
Both Dillingham and Bloomquist mentioned their programs are building to be sustainable powers over the upcoming years. We’ll get to see how Rossini can help facilitate that.
