Hamilton’s Michael Masunas has been one of the most highly-recruited players at the tight end position in Arizona this year.
Holding offers from NAU, New Mexico, Penn, Florida State, San Diego State, Army, Maryland, UNLV, Michigan State, Tennessee and Utah, Masunas has seen offers come in consistently over the last year.
On Saturday, he committed to the Spartans after going on a visit this week.

“What made Michigan State the best choice was a combination of several things,” Masunas said. “I came away with a strong feeling of family, I really like the coaching staff, and the football program is outstanding. They plan to use me as a tight end for both catching and blocking, and that makes it a good fit all around.”
This is the second Spartan commit of Arizona’s 2022 class. Desert Edge offensive lineman Gavin Broscious committed to Michigan State back in December.
While he’s been building a relationship with the Michigan State coaches for a while now, the visit gave him an opportunity to meet them face-to-face.
“The most impactful part of my official visit was finally getting to meet all of the coaches and some of the players in person,” Masunas said. “The relationships are so important.”
Masunas transferred from Sabino to Hamilton in the 2019-20 offseason after his father had a work transfer. In his first year with the Huskies, he caught seven passes for 57 yards and a touchdown. He also was an elite blocking option in the Hamilton run game.
It could be a few good days for Michigan State and Hamilton. Husky quarterback Nicco Marchiol is slated to announce his commitment on Monday, and he recently visited East Lansing, as well as ASU and West Virginia.
