Tyler Shough “A Sponge” At The Opening

BEAVERTON, ORE –

Hamilton quarterback Tyler Shough’s ascension in the national spotlight came quickly, and he continues to impress.

After picking up offers from plenty of Power 5 programs like Michigan, South Carolina, Cal, Indiana and Florida State, Shough committed to North Carolina. In the meantime, he stood toe-to-toe with some of the nation’s best quarterbacks at the Elite 11 Finals last month.

All he did was thrive.

He ended up at The Opening Finals, joining North Canyon wide receiver Solomon Enis and Chandler wide receiver Gunner Romney as Arizona’s representatives. He also reunited with many of the quarterbacks he competed with in Los Angeles just a few weeks prior at the Elite 11 Finals. Going through the process and joining the Elite 11 fraternity helped bond the quarterbacks.

“He’s a great quarterback, has a great arm, great accuracy. We’ve kind of become best friends, honestly, so it’s definitely great knowing him,” 2018 Elite 11 quarterback Justin Fields said.

“The only thing I knew about him was he had great hair and he was tall. That’s pretty much it, but I’ve learned just how good his personality is and how well he gets along with guys.”

With his college decision made, Shough focused on recruiting other Tar Heel targets while in Beaverton, including four-star wide receiver Jordyn Adams, who committed to North Carolina while at The Opening.

“I can do some recruiting here,” Shough said. “Talk to a lot of guys about my recruitment and what I love about (North Carolina). It’s kind of a weight off my shoulders.”

Now, the Hamilton quarterback’s focus is on sharpening his body and mind for his senior season with the Huskies.

“I’m just trying to be a sponge, learn as much as I can from these amazing coaches, amazing players, gain all the confidence,” Shough said. “Just learn as much as I can and best the best quarterback here and win that competition.”
