A few years ago it was Zack Greinke. Then this past winter another ace with a sizeable price tag, Madison Bumgarner, was added to the mix. The recent past has proven the Arizona Diamondbacks haven’t been afraid to make an off-season splash.

Could Kris Bryant be the next star to land in the desert?

“Whenever you hear the Diamondbacks involved in anything, I would say there’s always a chance something could happen,” ESPN MLB insider Pedro Gomez said to Sports360AZ.com’s Brad Cesmat in a phone interview Thursday. “The Diamondbacks, despite not being a big, big market team are a wild card when it comes to almost anything.”

“Ken Kendrich makes the D-backs a wild card when it comes to anything,” Gomez continued. “There’s always a chance whenever the D-backs are involved…that’s because Ken Kendrick is so willing to say, ‘Here’s my check book. Let’s do it.”

Time will tell if Kendrick will make a run at the 28-year-old third baseman who hit .282 with 31 homers and 77 runs batted in for the Chicago Cubs in 2019. Bryant won the 2015 National League Rookie of the Year, the 2016 NL MVP and is a three-time All-Star.

Thursday first-year Chicago manager David Ross said, “I think fans should expect” Bryant to be with the Cubs on Opening Day.

Stay tuned.
