Giant Slayer! Sun Devils take down #1 Kansas

For about 38 minutes, Arizona State looked like they were going to be kicking themselves after a loss to Kansas.

Missed free throws, sloppy ball handling, and plenty of missed shots in the lane had put the Sun Devils up against a wall. But Bobby Hurley kept his team focused and composed late, and the Sun Devils pulled off their biggest home victory in the history of the program, beating Kansas 80-76.

They did it by clamping down on defense late, allowing the Jayhawks to score just two points in the final 4:31 of the game.

Remy Martin would hit a jumper with a 1:01 left in the contest to give the Sun Devils the lead for good, 78-76. Martin led the Sun Devils to a victory last year at Kansas.

Truth be told, ASU didn’t play very well Saturday night, but they managed to get the victory. Rob Edwards came off the bench to lead the scoring for Arizona State with 15.

Arizona St.improves to 9-2. It will be interesting to see just how high the Sun Devils will go in the rankings which will be released on Monday. For now, Bobby Hurley and company can celebrate after knocking off the #1 team in the nation.
