ASU fans expected to see a change at quarterback this week. They didn’t expect multiple changes.
Mikey Keene got the start on Saturday against Kansas State after a strong showing in the second half of the Texas Tech game last week. He played well and helped move the ball, but got injured right before halftime. After a few series with Cutter Boley, Kenny Dillingham turned to freshman Jake Fette.
Fette led multiple drives that resulted in touchdowns, and fellow first-year player Cardae Mack found the end zone four times to beat Kansas State 28-17.
Defensively, Julian Hugo and Daquwan Dunn were also big-time freshmen contributors. It might have been a glimpse of the future, but these players were also looking to make an impact in the present as well.
After the game, Kenny Dillingham said he anticipates Fette to be “the guy” this week at quarterback unless Mikey Keene has an optimal injury prognosis and is available for Saturday’s game.
