Former Basha Bear, Oregon Duck Cole Martin Announces Transfer to ASU

The Sun Devils added a big local transfer this weekend in former Basha Bear Cole Martin.

The defensive back and returner was one of the top players in the class of 2023. He also helped the Bears win an Open Division title in 2022.

Martin committed to Oregon out of high school and found the field often as a true freshman. The 5-foot-10, 180-pound back served predominantly as a nickel and tallied 21 tackles with one pass defended and one interception.

He was a four-year starter in high school, starting his career at Hamilton before transferring to Basha.

According to MaxPreps, he totaled 127 tackles with five interceptions over four years and 34 passes defended. He also had two punt returns for touchdowns and three kickoff returns for scores. As a senior, he was named the National Football Foundation Valley of the Sun Chapter Specialist of the Year.

This was a quick decision for Martin, who entered the transfer portal on Tuesday, just days after he played in the Fiesta Bowl for the Ducks.

The Sun Devils have added a lot of talent to the defensive secondary this offseason, and Martin is a young player who has seen a lot of time on the field early in his college career.
