With the Suns third first-round pick (27th overall) the Suns went international selecting Serbian shooting guard Bogdan Bogdanovic. Here are five ways Bogdanovic can help Phoenix.
Ball Handling- Bogdanovic has the ability to get out in transition as either a distributor or a finisher on the wing. This is a perfect trait in the Suns up-tempo system which stresses flexibility and players who can fill multiple roles.
Scoring- You can never have enough of these, right? Known as a “creative scorer” who can fill it up from anywhere on the floor. The 6’6 guard has the length and wingspan (6’11) to shoot over smaller defenders, as well as finish at the rim. Can also score with his back to the basket if opportunity presents itself. Shot a combined 40% on three’s in EuroLeague and Adriatic Leagues
Versatility- As mentioned above Phoenix has always coveted players with multiple skill sets and Bogdanovic fits the bill here. Filled in at point guard due to injury last season and averaged close to four assists per game. Has the frame to fill out and get stronger as he matures physically. Bogdanovic can also defend multiple positions.
Instincts- His length allows the 21-year-old to jump passing lanes and create turnovers. He averaged close to two steals a game per 40 minutes overseas last season. His lateral quickness combined with his ball handling and ability to finish on the break make the perfect trifecta for a team like the Suns who like to run.
Confidence- This can be a mixed bag for foreign players. Some have issues adapting whether it be the schedule, language barrier or simply living in a foreign country. On the court Bogdanovic plays with a swagger. A confident shooter with a quick release and the ability to stretch defenses with NBA range.
