Here are some hi-lights from our most recent conversation (September 18th) with the Fantasy Sports Writer’s Association Hall of Famer.

Do you things getting better here in Arizona, specifically with David Johnson? “Yeah. It’s only been two weeks. Things have been bad and at some points the Cardinals are going to smarten up and use Josh Rosen because Sam Bradford’s been just dreadful. He’s averaging four yards per attempt?! Put Josh Rosen in that offense and see what happens.”

Are you all in Ryan Fitzpatrick? “After Week One one I sort of faded him because of the Eagles, tough matchup, but Fitzmagic is…wow. I sort of hard to even conceptualize what’s going on with Tampa Bay’s offense because, it wasn’t like this offense was considered one of the elite units in football and now, all of a sudden, they’re putting up Don Coryell-type numbers so play him. Steelers defense is bad but at some point I do fear that the bubble will burst.”

What can you say that hasn’t already been said about Patrick Mahomes? “It’s ridiculous. Right now he’s thrown for 582 yards…but Mahomes has 10 touchdowns in two weeks: the most in NFL history for a quarterback in his first two games. He’s been ridiculous and it’s all sort of been set up for him. We talked about it in the pre-season, Mahomes was a big-time sleeper because they gave him the keys to the Ferrari but no one has expected this. This has been unreal. He hasn’t even thrown an interception. This is a guy with limited experience as a starting quarterback in the National Football League. This guy is a must-start every single week. Their defense has been terrible and they’ve been in two big-time shootouts and they’re probably going to in another one against San Francisco. You gotta love it because he was probably a 10th or 11th-round pick.”

What players do you feel are emerging after two weeks? “Chris Thompson has clearly emerged. James Connor has emerged with Le’Veon Bell out. I don’t know when he’s coming back. Austin Ekeler has emerged. Phillip Lindsay? That came out of nowhere. I really liked Royce Freeman and I didn’t see Lindsay coming and no one in the fantasy football world did either because he wasn’t even drafted in most leagues. This guy is absolutely an electric player. You’re also seeing the glimpses of what we expected with Emmanuel Sanders. Nelson Agholor.”

What can you make of the Ravens backfield so far in 2018? “Alex Collins has had a slow start to the season unfortunately for fantasy fans. It looks like Buck Allen is going to be the goal line back. If you would have told me that in the pre-season I would have been surprised. But he has been getting the opportunities.”
