Here are some hi-lights from our most recent conversation (September 6th) with the Fantasy Sports Writer’s Association Hall of Famer.

Who are some running backs you like in Week 1? “I like Eddie Lacy to bounce back. It will start this week against the Jacksonville Jaguars. D’Angelo Williams is a guy you’ve got to start. Latavius Murray’s got a great matchup.”

Who are some sits? “Jeremy Hill in New York. I know Melvin Gordon looked great in the pre-season but the Chiefs, they gave up one rushing touchdown in the last five games against the Chargers so it’s a bad match up.”

Does the quarterback situation in LA give you any concerns at all about Todd Gurley? “I’m not concerned about the quarterback or the wide receivers or the offensive line. He overcame all those issues last year and he’ll do it again this year.”

What’s the latest with Tyler Eifert in Cincinnati? “Looks like he could be out the first 4-6 weeks and that could be a fluid situation but…it’s sort of a wait-and-see situation. The good thing is you can stream tight ends for the first few weeks. They’re not going to be as good as Eifert but when he comes back you’re going to have a rock solid TE1 in your lineup.”

Outside of Rob Gronkowski, who do you have towards the top of your tight end lists? “Greg Olson and Jordan Reed are the two guys nipping at his heels to potentially become closer to the value of Gronkowski because he always seems to be head and shoulders above the rest. Olson, two 1,000-yard seasons. A guy who’s ridiculously durable and consistent. Jordan Reed is more of the upside play. Very good at the end of last year. In the second half he was amazing statistically. Has had some durability issues so there’s some concern there but if you want to go with the reliable, productive option it’s Olson. If you want to go with upside, it’s Jordan Reed and you hope he stays out of the trainer’s room.”

I’m guessing Philip Rivers is a bad play this weekend in Kansas City? “Philip Rivers in his last three games against the Chiefs he’s failed to throw a touchdown pass and has four interceptions. Not a good match up.”
