Embattled UA Coach Miller Denies Allegations

Arizona Sports News online

In an on-campus press conference held Thursday afternoon University of Arizona head basketball coach Sean Miller denied allegations that he was involved in paying a potential recruit.

“Contrary to what has been written this past week we do our best to run a clean program at the University of Arizona,” Miller said in his first public comments. “I have never knowingly violated NCAA rules while serving as head coach of this great program. I have never paid a recruit or prospect or their family or representative to come to Arizona. I never have and I never will.”

Miller continued to express his innocence and backed up his star player who was named in the allegations.

“I also understand that there is an ongoing federal investigation, and because of this, I cannot do anything that might compromise the integrity of this investigation,” he said. “However, on this point, I cannot remain silent in light of media reports that have impugned the reputation of me, the university and sullied the name of a tremendous young man, Deandre Ayton.”

After not coaching last Saturday at Oregon, Miller will return to the bench Thursday night when the Wildcats host Stanford according to an ESPN source.
