Diamondbacks trade Wade Miley to Boston

Arizona Sports News online

The Diamondbacks busy shopping season at the Baseball Winter Meetings continued Wednesday night in San Diego. Starting pitcher Wade Miley became the latest to be traded out of Sedona Red.

Arizona moved the left-hander to the Boston Red Sox for two minor league pitchers.
This trade comes as no surprise. General Manager Dave Stewart told me on this mornings show that the team was getting plenty of offers for Miley. Boston was taking heat from the Red Sox faithful for missing out on signing Jon Lester, who went to the Cubs Tuesday night.

The Diamondbacks get back right-handed pitchers Rubby De La Rosa and Allen Webster. De La Rosa appeared in 30 games for the Sox, 18 of them as a starter. He had a 4.54 ERA in 113 innings.
Webster was ranked as a top-100 prospect by Baseball America in 2014.

There was some controversy around this deal. While Boston media was reporting that the deal was done, Diamondbacks General Manager Dave Stewart initially denied that there was a deal. Eventually the two sides were able to work through the controversy and get the deal done.

The Miley trade comes a day after Miguel Montero was dealt to the Chicago Cubs for prospects. The Winter Meetings wrap up Thursday with the Rule 5 draft.
