Desert Mountain’s Dillon Hipp Breaks Down His Recruitment

Desert Mountain 3-star tight end Dillon Hipp has wasted no time diving into his recruitment this off-season. the 6-foot-6, 230-pound junior visited five schools in just six days last month and is coming off of a recent visit to TCU. The Horned Frogs left a huge impression on Dillon and can expect an official visit from Dillon in the future. 

“Everything that had to do to the program, you know, like the facilities, the coaches were all so nice, and they really just put a lot of effort into making sure I had a great visit and all that type of stuff. And it was a great time just with the coaches.”

Dillon said he had high expectations heading into his unofficial visit to TCU after their success last season leading the Horned Frogs all the way to the National Championship. Apart from the relationships Dillon built with the coaching staff over the weekend he is confident he’s the perfect fit on the field at TCU. 

“The scheme that they run is very beneficial for a tight end, and their tight end right now is thriving. So that was also good to see because he’s gonna be in the NFL next year, most likely. So I was really impressed. It really made them go up on my list of interests for sure.”

Hipp says he bumped into TCU’s starting tight end Jared Wiley on his visit. Wiley is a player that Hipp often compares himself to and mimics his game after. 

Alongside TCU, Dillon is planning to take an official visit to Baylor. He feels that both programs have the balance of elite-level football, top-tier education and says they are both in desirable locations.

Baylor stands out as a fitting opportunity for Dillon as the program is known for running offensive schemes with multiple tight ends.

“Coach Grimes, the tight end slash offensive coordinator is very experienced and you know, I trust him a lot and our relationship is very good.”

However, ASU has joined the chase for the Desert Mountain tight end and Jason Mohns wasted no time targeting Hipp the moment he joined the coaching staff. Hipp recalls the former Saguaro head coach visiting Desert Mountain on his very first day on the ASU coaching staff and it left an immediate impression on him. Recently, Dillon’s teammate, Dylan Tapley committed to ASU and Hipp says he’s excited about the potential opportunity to play with his Desert Mountain teammate if he chooses to continue his career with the Sun Devils.

After a handful of visits and 32 offers on the table, Hipp says he’s close to narrowing down his schools to his top five or eight programs. 

“Patience is always a good thing to have. But the main thing in my recruitment has been like ‘a feeling thing’. If you step on campus, you’ll kind of know if you fit in immediately, just based on the people you meet there, and just the attitude around campus, you can kind of feel it.”

Dillon plans to make a commitment this summer in June or July.
