D.J. Foster Unplugged With Brad Cesmat

For Arizona sports fans, D.J. Foster has been a household name for quite a while now.

Shifty Sabercat

The running back was the standout at Saguaro High School, where he rushed nearly 4,500 and 76 touchdowns in two seasons including one effort that racked up 504 yards and 10 touchdowns on 20 carries (25 yards per carry). He was named the Arizona Republic Big School Player of the Year in 2011 and won a few state championships with the Sabercats along the way too.

Staying True To ASU

He was Todd Graham’s first major recruit to commit to the Sun Devils, and he did a little bit of everything from day one. He saw plenty of time as a true freshman and his roles expanded and changed as his college career continued. When it was all said and done, the running back turned wide receiver finished his career in Tempe with 222 receptions, second most in school history, 2,458 receiving yards, 2,355 rushing yards and 32 career touchdowns. He was one of five players in NCAA Division I history to rush and receive for more than 2,000 career yards. In his four year career at Arizona State, the Sun Devils won 34 games.

Life In The NFL

Foster signed as an undrafted free agent with the New England Patriots and spent the year on the practice squad, learning from the veteran roster and acclimating to life on the east coast. He is going to spend this offseason continuing to bulk up and refine his skills to be prepped for training camp. Seeing what New England running back James White accomplished in the Super Bowl – 139 all purpose yards and three touchdowns – drives Foster to be ready for when his name is called.

Foster also took some time to go back to where this journey started to share his experiences with current Sabercats.

It’s been a crazy couple years for D.J. Foster.
