On Tuesday, the Arizona Diamondbacks traded for third baseman Nolan Arenaodo from the St. Louis Cardinals.
The Cardinals will eat most of his remaining contract through 2026, with Arizona only on the hook for $5 million in 2025 and $6 million in 2026.
“I think he’s a good fit for our team,” Mike Hazen said to the media via Zoom. “We think he really solidifies our defense on the infield.”
The 34-year-old defensive wizard took a step back at the plate last season, but Hazen and co. believe he can help this team in all phases of the game.
Hazen says this move will provide the team more flexibility, with young players like Blaze Alexander and Jordan Lawlar possibly moving to the outfield while filling in across the infield.
Expect more moves to come…
“We’re trying to fill a number of different holes,” Hazen said. “I don’t think we’re anywhere close to being one player away from being the best team we can be.”
