Chandler’s Eli Sanders Goes In-Depth on Boise State Commitment

Chandler 2021 running back Eli Sanders made the most of limited time in his 2019 season. After sitting out for five games due to transfer rules, the running back tallied 643 yards and 10 rushing touchdowns, averaging 7.4 yards per carry.

His strong junior campaign led to offers from Nevada, NAU, ASU, Arizona, Boise State, Idaho, New Mexico State, Dartmouth and Tulane.

On Saturday, he committed to the Broncos of Boise State.

“I just see myself in their offense very well,” Sanders said. “They make me feel at home on every call, every virtual visit I’ve been on. It’s a great feeling for me and my family.”

Sanders is the second Chandler player to commit to the Broncos in a matter of days, joining wide receiver Jalen Richmond.

“I’m excited about being with someone I know up there and having the chance to develop with him the next 3-4 years,” Richmond said. “I think it will help me be a little more comfortable up there, and Eli and I will definitely push each other.”

Chandler head coach Rick Garretson believes both players can benefit from having a familiar face in a new environment.

“I think any time you go some place with someone you know, it’s nothing but a positive,” Garretson said. “Being a first time away from home, all the things that go along with that, being there with someone you’re familiar with, so I think that’s a big positive.”

Sanders brings a big-bodied frame that doesn’t shy away from contact. Garretson believes Sanders is Boise’s “type of guy”.

“I know what caught their eye of Eli was his ability for yards after first contact,” Garretson said. “I know he was their number one running back on their board. I think it’s a win-win situation. He’s going to a great program, a program that develops great players and is in a long line of running backs that they’ve had in the past that have had high success there.”

Sanders sat down with the Venezia’s Pizzeria Recruiting Roundup to discuss the commitment, continuing his career with Jalen Richmond and his support system at Chandler.
