There was plenty of talent at Arizona Athletic Grounds for the girls weekend of Section 7 last weekend.
College coaches were also well-represented as they continue to evaluate and recruit the next couple classes of top players. There were multiple Arizona State targets taking the court, and Sports360AZ caught up with them to hear about the their development and recruitments:
Kaleena Smith – Ontario Christian (CA) – 2027
The No. 1 player in the 2027 class had plenty of eyes on her throughout the weekend, and she had a really good couple of days in Arizona. She took an unofficial visit to Arizona State last fall as Molly Miller and co. were just starting their first season in Tempe. On3’s Talia Goodman also reports Smith will officially visit Tempe on October 10.
Smith spoke about her team coming together, playing for Team USA and her relationship with the Sun Devil coaches.
Berkley Jones – Eagle (ID) – 2027
The guard showed her ability to shoot and doesn’t need the ball in her hands to make a positive impact. She had a couple put-backs in the game I watched simply by making great reads on missed shots and positioning herself where the ball would ricochet off the rim. She’s working on becoming a three-level scorer and visited Arizona State for an unofficial this past spring.
Sienna Williams – Monarch (CO) – 2027
The 6-foot-4 forward can impact the game in the paint on both ends of the court. She has good handles and hit multiple three-pointers in the game we saw. With her Monarch team down two in the final minute, Williams went to the free throw line and knocked down both shots with ease. She prides herself on versatility and announced an offer from Arizona State about a month ago.
Love Lei Best – Tualatin (OR) – 2028
One of the top point guards and players in the 2028 class, the Oregon Gatorade Player of the Year battled on both sides of the court in Tualatin’s game against Mater Dei. She had a good game overall but found another gear in the closing minutes, hitting a few shots and forcing a couple turnovers.. Mater Dei ended up winning, but Best made plays during high-pressure moments.
She took an unofficial to Arizona State this time last year and was back in Tempe this week ahead of her Section 7 weekend.
Best also visited the University of Arizona on this trip.
She spoke about her growth as a point guard, watching Arizona State build in year one with this new coaching staff and how her older brothers helped sharpen her defensive mentality.
These four are just a few of the players the Arizona State staff was watching and evaluating at Section 7. As the recruiting trail heats up over the next few weeks – especially for the class of 2027 – keep an eye on who the Sun Devils may work to add to their future classes.
