Buying or selling 3-0 Sun Devil start, Rams have Cardinals number, Dbacks, more…

Arizona Sports News online

The expanded College Football Playoff gives anyone and everyone a shot at the postseason(unless you’re Florida State). In Tempe, a 3-0 start for the Sun Devils, has some big cigars making noise that anything is possible. Far be it from me to say, “tap the brakes,” but hey, they are undefeated. So are Pitt, Michigan State, Toledo(thrashed Mississippi St. 41-17 Saturday night) Washington State, and Northern Illinois. I’m not in the business of selling tickets, however, one only has to look ahead to early October and see Kansas and Utah come to Sun Devil Stadium over six days. The Jayhawks are 1-2 with a win over mighty Lindenwood. They paid UNLV a guarantee of $700,000 to show up Friday night and take a beat-down. Instead, the Runnin Rebels were not good guests and thumped the Jayhawks. I think KU is looking forward to Midnight Madness rather than football. Yes, I’m leaving out Texas Tech next week because it’s on the road. Win or lose next Saturday,  your dollars to watch the Arizona State football team in person would be well spent. The squad is coached up. The team has some embraceable players. I’ve heard more than one national talk show loving on the name Cam Skattebo. He’s on my Heisman dark horse list. 262 rushing yards against any SEC program grabs my attention…

Travis Hunter at Colorado would be at the top of my ballot at this point of the season…

When I see Kenny Dillingham coach or do his media stuff, I see a combination of USC basketball coach Eric Musselman and Auburn basketball’s Bruce Pearl…

Good for the Pac-12! Texas State and UTSA would be intelligent additions. Any footprint in Texas is good business for a conference trying to expand. Memphis and Tulane, meh…

In this NIL transfer portal era, it will be interesting to see how long players stick around at programs that are off to bad starts—0-3 Florida State, 1-2 Florida, etc. More than one college coach or assistant has used the term “mercenaries” when discussing the sport’s current climate. I’m not a fan of players jumping around, but that is the current landscape…

I love having the rivalry games early. Oregon State vs. Oregon and Washington vs. Washington State made for compelling college football Saturday and weren’t lost in the wash of the Thanksgiving holiday.

USC at Michigan and Utah at Oklahoma State next Saturday midday…

VRBO Fiesta Bowl, Guaranteed Rate Bowl in Downtown, and The Snoop Dogg Arizona Bowl By Gin & Juice. Yes, bowl season will be busy, but quietly, the Guaranteed Rate game may be one of the better matchups. Big 10 vs Big 12 the day after Christmas at 3:30 in the afternoon. How about Arizona State vs Nebraska…

Last time the Cardinals beat the Rams at home Barak Obama was President and the song of the year was “Happy” by Pherrell Williams. As Casey Kasem would say, “the year was 2014″…

The Cardinals win; Kyler is great. The Cardinals lose, Kyler needs to go. No middle ground around town from the fan base…

Marvin Harrison Jr. needs a minimum of 10 targets a game. I’m good with much more…

Tua has had three diagnosed concussions. At what point do the agent, doctors, NFLPA, Roger Goodell, and Dolphins brass step in and say, “Enough is enough,” or is it, “Mind your own business?” He’s 26 years old. He has a lot of life in front of him, but the allure of competing(and the money) keeps players coming back for more…

Tom Brady will be just fine as an NFL analyst. His first game was a dog. Dallas overwhelmed a bad-looking Cleveland team. Try making a chicken salad from chicken “bleep” your first time out. It’s not easy. Greg Olson shines through all of this…

Is this it for Diana Taurasi? Thursday night’s Mercury regular season home finale may give some clues…

Hometown Nine looks like it’s running out of gas in the starting pitching department. Brandon Pfaadt has been battered around this month. Ryne Nelson is on the injured list. If there were ever a time for Jordan Montgomery to earn a bit of his big contract, it would be in the next two weeks…

Ken Kendrick has to ask himself about paying huge contracts to lefties like Mad Bum, Eduardo Rodriguez, and Montgomery and seeing very little return on investment. Be happy; we have an owner in Phoenix who is willing to put money into the product. Look at what Oakland has been stuck with in the way of ownership.

I usually don’t point out struggling high school football programs, but when I see that Saguaro is 0-3 and has been outscored 145-37, well, it’s a Three dot Thought…

Brophy at Perry next Friday night. Liberty hosting Corona Centennial next Saturday night would be worth the price of admission to…

Perry quarterback Kael Snyder is the son of former NFL lineman Adam Snyder. I took Brock Purdy’s dad, Shawn, to a Perry game a couple of weeks back, and he was impressed with Snyder…
