Buckeye Union Celebrates Graduation Driving Around Phoenix Raceway

Arizona Sports News online

Even with the difficulties presented by COVID-19, the Buckeye Union High School District worked together with Phoenix Raceway in Avondale to give their graduating seniors a one-of-a-kind experience they’ll never forget. Today, Buckeye Union, Youngker, and Estrella Foothills High School seniors and their families took a pace lap around the home of the 2020 NASCAR Championship Weekend and had their names called as they crossed the finish line of their high school careers.

Vehicles carrying their graduates staged three-wide on the back straight away before being escorted by Avondale Police on a pace lap around the 1-mile oval. The group of cars, nearly half a mile long then stopped coming back to the start/finish line when every senior had their name called and one-by-one drove past the finish line.
