Like father, like son. For Brophy Prep senior forward/center Timothy Kempton, son of former NBA player and current Phoenix Suns radio analyst, basketball has always been in his blood.
“Obviously, working with my dad,” Kempton told Pros2Preps.com following a 15-point performance in a lopsided win over Mesa Westwood Wednesday. “He’s taught me most of the post moves and everything.”
The 6’8 Kempton is a centerpiece at both ends of the floor for the seventh-ranked 20-4 Broncos who have won four-straight after blowing out Gilbert Chandler 68-46 Thursday night. His game and his body have developed over the past two years from extension work on the practice court and in the gym.
“His desire to play the game is really the most enjoyable thing to see,” father Tim Kempton explained to Pros2Preps before a recent Suns game. “Him wanting to get out there and get better and play hard and play the right way.”
His focus and on the floor has led to a scholarship next fall.
“I’m committed to Lehigh,” Kempton, jr. said. “Trying to make an immediate impact would be my main goal. They’re number on in the Patriot League now so I’m excited to join Coach [Brett] Reed and his staff.”
He said he fell in love with the Bethlehem, Pennsylvania school and decided to commit after taking official visits to Pacific and Santa Clara, as well. Although he was drawn to the West Coast Conference competition at SCU, he believes playing for the Mountain Hawks in the Patriot was ultimately the best fit both athletically and academically.
