Brophy junior Devon Allen holds the state record in the 110 meter and 300 meter hurdle events. He also won the state title in both of those events and missed winning the 100 meter and 200 meter races both by one hundredth ova second to Deer Valley’s Trae Armstrong.
So with all these accolades you would think Allen’s future would be focused on football over track right?
“Right now it would be football,” Allen answered when asked where he see’s more of a future with between football and track. “It’s because I am having more success in football right now but you never know what can happen in college.”
It is hard to believe that Allen could have more success in football then the success he has had in track. But when you take a look at the amount of Division I offers Allen has to play football at the next level, he might have the right assessment of himself.
Allen currently holds 19 offers from division I football programs. Some of which include Ohio State, Oklahoma, Stanford, the Arizona schools.
The Brophy football team has some high expectations going into next season with Allen being a senior as well as fellow senior quarterback Tyler Bruggman leading the squad.
“I think everybody loves each other so I think we will have a very good season,” explained Allen. “It could be something special.”
Track is still a passion and priority for Allen. This summer, Allen will be trying out for the United States juniors team and will be competing in international events in Puerto Rico.
“I always want to win, just to get my name out there but you know just to have a good time,” said Allen. “It’s a free trip to Puerto Rico so it gives me the opportunity to see things I’ve never seen before.”
Allen has dominated the hurdle events in the state and looks toward his senior season to take over the reigns of the 100 and 200 meter sprint events as well. Both are events he finished second in this year. And in both races lost by one hundredth of a second. It could be safe to say he will be the favorite in those two events as well next year.
