Ben Morrison wanted to make a statement ahead of the NFL Draft, and it sounds like he did just that.
The NFL Draft is later this week, and with teams scrambling to finalize their boards, sometimes it’s good for them to see how good of an athlete a prospect is. In-person is the best, and when a player is coming off an injury, it helps even more.
It’s precisely what former Brophy Bronco defensive back Benjamin Morrison did on Monday
afternoon. He held a private workout for NFL teams as he rehabilitated from the hip injury he sustained this past season at Notre Dame.
Morrison was considered a first-round pick going into this past college football season, but he needed hip surgery, which ended his season in October. He hasn’t participated in any workouts in the draft process so far. He opted for a workout at his former high school at Brophy Sports Field.
The talented corner only participated in positional drills and didn’t run a 40-yard dash. He doesn’t have to, as he only has one thing on his mind.
“I think my biggest things are showing that not just I’m healthy, but I’m still that number one corner,” Morrison said. “I think many people forgot, so they can’t forget three days before the draft. They see that I can move and be healthy.” Morrison possesses an aggressive play style and can tackle and make exceptional reads based on
his processing speed with excellent short-area quickness. Many of the drills he participated in featured quick cutting and short area change of direction, which helped prove to teams that he was healthy.
His movements looked smooth going through it all and stiff on some reps, but overall, the smoothness in his tape showcased itself naturally – a good sign for any teams looking to take him. Something you can’t prove throughout workouts like these is physicality. His previous coach at Brophy, Jason Jewell, knows it’s the main trait teams can expect. “What I always thought set him apart was, even though he was a corner, he’s super physical,” Jewell said. “Willing to stick his face in there and make a tackle.”
At the moment, Morrison projects to be a second-round pick in the draft
