It’s the first day of 2022, but the Oregon Ducks are already receiving gifts for 2023. Basha playmaker Cole Martin, a top player in the class of 2023, announced his commitment to the Ducks on Saturday.

The 5-10, 175-pound defensive back holds over 30 offers and has been a starter at the varsity level since his freshman year.
Martin is excited to play under new head coach Dan Lanning, who most recently was the Georgia Bulldogs’ defensive coordinator. Lanning coached Martin’s good friend and former Saguaro Sabercat Kelee Ringo in Athens. Lanning has also built a staff of elite Pac-12 recruiters including Demetrice Martin – Cole’s father – as defensive backs coach. “Coach Meat” most recently coached at Colorado and has been a part of six Pac-12 programs.
Cole values all the lessons he has learned from his father on and off the field. He said he’s looking forward to be coached in an official capacity at the next level and making Duck football a family affair.
In two years at Hamilton and last year at Basha, Martin accumulated 144 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, three interceptions, 19 passes defended and three fumbles recovered. He was also named the 2020 Arizona Cardinals High School Special Teams Player of the Year.
Cole Martin – Next Arizona Duck
It looks like Lanning’s staff will try to continue the trend of recruiting elite Arizona talent. Quarterback Ty Thompson, offensive linemen Jaylan Jeffers, Jonah Miller and Bram Walden and outside linebacker Brandon Buckner are all Arizona standouts on the Ducks’ roster.
Coach Martin and new offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham recruited Arizona extensively as well. Dillingham, an Arizona native, has coached at Memphis, Auburn and Florida State and now Oregon.
