ASU QB Perkins, Good to Go

Arizona Sports News online

By Kalean Jones @KaelenJones

Bryce Perkins is ready for action.

Perkins suffered a neck injury in August amidst competing for the Arizona State Sun Devils’ starting quarterback job. The injury raised speculation of a possible transfer, but the redshirt sophomore has ultimately decided to remain in Tempe.

His return may have come at just the right time.

The Sun Devils enter the 2017 offseason facing a dilemma regarding their starting quarterback job for the second straight year.

ASU will host a four-man quarterback battle featuring Perkins, Manny Wilkins (who was named the team’s 2016 starter), Dillon Sterling-Cole, and Alabama transfer Blake Barnett, who committed to the team in December.

With the Sun Devils featuring a new offensive coordinator in Billy Napier, the job is presumably wide open after injuries prevented Wilkins from securing the job, Sterling-Cole’s inexperience, and a foot injury that has sidelined Brady White from contending for the role.

ASU will open spring practices on Monday, March 13. Their season opener is scheduled against New Mexico State on Thursday, August 31 at Sun Devil Stadium.
