ASU Guard Frankie Collins Enters Transfer Portal

Arizona State men’s basketball had their fair share of struggles this year and the team’s performance was volatile day-to-day.

The most consistent aspect of the season was far and away point guard Frankie Collins.

Now, the Sun Devils may be without him moving forward.

Collins announced on Tuesday he will enter the transfer portal but Arizona State will remain an option for the future.

“With one year of eligibility remaining, I will be exploring my options in the NCAA transfer portal, with ASU being an option to return,” Collins said in a statement.

Collins set the single-season program record for steals with 84. He led the team in scoring. His 4.4 rebounds per game were second on the team. He also played 32.3 minutes per game, only second to Jamiya Neal.

Collins saw a massive jump in his production from year 1 with Hurley, who has said in the past that Collins is the most complete point guard he has coached.

So far Collins, Neal, Akil Watson and Braelon Green have entered the portal. Jose Perez left the team early prior to the Pac-12 tournament and has exhausted his eligibility, as has Alonzo Gaffney and Zane Meeks.

After back-to-back seasons of massive overhaul, the Sun Devils could be in for another busy off-season revamping the roster.

Hurley had expressed publicly he would love to maintain the team’s core of Collins, Neal, Adam Miller and Shawn Phillips in the Sun Devils’ first season in the Big 12. He’ll now work to see how much of that core he can maintain, while adding to the roster.
