ASU Football to Self-Impose One-Year Bowl Ban

Even if the Sun Devils clear six wins this year, Arizona State football will not go to bowl season in Kenny Dillingham’s first year as head coach.

Arizona State is going to self-impose a one-year bowl ban this upcoming year. This stems from the NCAA investigation into alleged illegal recruiting meetings with players on and off campus while there was a no-contact period during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Multiple coaches from Herm Edwards’ staff resigned while he was still leading the program. Edwards and Arizona State parted ways after the third game of the season last year when the Sun Devils lost to Eastern Michigan.

“Arizona State University has informed the NCAA and Pac-12 conference that it will self-impose a one-year postseason ban on its football program for the upcoming season,” ASU athletic director Ray Anderson said in a statement. “In light of the ongoing investigation and our membership obligation to maintain the confidentiality of the matter, we will not be commenting further at this time.”

The Sun Devils kick off their 2023 season on Thursday against Southern Utah.
