ASU Follows McCullough & Scattebo’s Lead to Win Over Utah

Arizona State football has been linked to the No. 16. Jake Plummer, Andrew Walter and Trenton Bourguet have all donned the number. But for this year’s squad, No. 16 was a point of motivation. That’s where they were picked to finish in the Big 12 ahead of the year.

A reminder – there are 16 teams in the conference.

Utah, the Sun Devils’ opponent on Friday night, were picked to win the conference. They also happen to be the No. 16 team in the nation…at least entering the game.

Which makes ASU’s 27-19 win over the Utes on Friday a bit of a full circle moment.

Utah quarterback Cam Rising struggled in his first game back from injury. Whether it was rust or he wasn’t fully healthy, the Sun Devils took advantage with three interceptions.

On offense, Cameron Skattebo tallied 199 total yards and two scores to set the tone. Sam Leavitt was solid, but did leave the game after taking a hard hit to his ribs. He was able to return and play out the second half. Jeff Sims stepped in and finished the drive with a rushing touchdown.

The Sun Devils now sit at 5-1 and take on Cincinnati on the road next Saturday.
