Corona Centennial wide receiver Cory Butler Jr. got a glimpse of his future home this past weekend. The Husky wide receiver is an Arizona State commit and his team beat Liberty in the Honor Bowl on Saturday 63-39.
If Butler can replicate the game he had on Saturday over the next few years in Tempe, Sun Devil fans will be very, very happy.
Butler walked away with six catches for 116 yards and two scores. He also completed a pass for 23 yards.
His head coach Matt Logan says the wide receiver brings the “juice” when he’s on the field, and the energy is noticeably lower when he is not with the team.
Kenny Dillingham has talked about bringing good people into the program and building a team of “multipliers.” According to Logan, Butler fits that mold and then some.
Butler says his family drives him to be great and the work ethic both of his parents instilled in him have helped get him to where he is today. He’s excited to work within the Sun Devil offense and get to learn from wide receivers coach Hines Ward.
He said he currently stand at 5-foot-9, 170 pounds and wants to add 10 pounds of muscle before he gets to Tempe. He plans to early enroll and be on-campus this January.
Butler is the latest Centennial standout to commit to Arizona State. Some of the top players in the Sun Devil program over the last 20 years came from this very Husky program including Will Sutton, Brandon Magee, Vontaze Burfict, Terry Richardson, Shelly Lyons, Ryan Bass and Michael Eubank.
