Arizona’s Drivers Prepared to Pounce on Daytona 500 Championship

On Arizona’s birthday in 2021, NASCAR drivers from the state of Arizona led the field to the green flag and the checkered flag in the most prestigious race in the sport.

37-year-old Glendale native, Michael McDowell earned his first career Cup Series victory in The Great American race one year ago. While life hasn’t changed much for the NASCAR veteran, he will forever be enshrined in NASCAR history. McDowell starts in the 6th position on Sunday to defend his championship.

Meanwhile, Tucson’s Alex Bowman has earned his fifth straight front row start in the Daytona 500 after Wednesday’s qualifying session. The 28-year-old will start second in the 64th running on Sunday after a disappointing Daytona 500 in 2021.
