After being a team that was considered lucky to make the postseason, the Arizona Wildcat softball team is headed to the Women’s College World Series after sweeping Mississippi State in the Super Regional.

The Wildcats edged out the Bulldogs on Friday 3-2 in eight innings and then dominated in Saturday’s clinching win, 7-1.

Devyn Netz took the circle on Saturday for the ‘Cats, throwing a complete game and only giving up one run. Arizona’s offense tacked on all seven runs in the fourth inning with Carlie Scupin getting the barrage started with a two-run home run.

The Wildcats started Pac-12 0-8 but maintained in a very tough Pac-12 conference to earn their postseason spot. They have gone 5-0 in the postseason in Catlin Lowe’s first season as the Wildcats’ head coach. They will play Oklahoma State in their first matchup in Oklahoma City.

The Pac-12 is guaranteed at least one more team to the Women’s College World Series as Oregon State and Stanford are competing in a Super Regional. UCLA could advance to Oklahoma City with one more win over Duke. Arizona State will need to win Saturday and Sunday against Northwestern to earn a spot as well.
