Arizona Cardinals Release Jordan Hicks

In what is going to be a busy offseason for the Arizona Cardinals, the Bird Gang announced it is moving on from a staple of their defense, releasing linebacker Jordan Hicks.

In three seasons with the Cardinals, the linebacker tallied 384 tackles, 5.5 sacks and four interceptions. 

The seven-year vet brought a stability to the middle of the defense after winning a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2018. 

According to OverTheCap.com, Hicks was due $9.5 million this year, and the move will save the team $6.5 million. 

The Cardinals invested first round picks at the linebacker position the previous two years in Isaiah Simmons and Zaven Collins. 

Collins, a rookie out of Tulsa last season, was named the starter at inside linebacker before ever taking a NFL snap. Hicks requested a trade but kept his head down and ended up leading the Cardinals in snaps while Collins saw 20% of snaps in 2021.

This move now indicates Collins will see an expanded role in his second NFL season.
