Another Mega-Valley Sporting Event delivers, QB merry-go-round of valley stars, Boivin returns, more…

Arizona Sports News online

It may be 110 degrees, but we are delivering on another mega-sporting event in the Valley. It doesn’t matter what time of the year; we get things done on the sports/hospitality front. “Heads on Beds” and the business of sports in Arizona need to keep on roaring. The 2024 list is WM Open, sold-out NASCAR Spring Race, Spring Training, Final Four, and now the WNBA All-Star Game. For those who want to point out the Coyotes leaving in mid-April, save your breath; that had everything to do with ownership. Hockey will return…

Hometown heroes on the gridiron start up this week. They’ve played in a total of three NFL playoff games in the last eight and half years. Obama was president and Star Wars VII was atop the box office the last time the Cardinals won a postseason matchup.  “Show up, shut up, and get to the playoffs,.” That is a pretty good slogan for the coming season. Regarding the roster, as Kyler Murray goes, so goes the Cardinals’ chances for late January games…

Mat Isbbia has made us forget about Robert Sarver, but at what point will firing head coaches give way to moving on from superstar players, and how will his ownership approach the tightrope of explaining to the fan base why a superstar has to go or is allowed to sign elsewhere? Charles Barkley, Dan Majerle, Steve Nash, Stat, etc., etc., I bring this up because if Coach Bud isn’t rolling the ball out next June, this group will have to be broken up…

Denver adding Russell Westbrook is going to be a problem. Some may agree and say the problem will be for the Nuggets. I’m not on that side of the aisle.

Speaking of sides of the aisles…Nah…

Quick quiz: The Topic is the college quarterback merry-go-round. Where are former Valley high school stars Tyler Shough, Ty Thompson, and Chubba Purdy playing this season? Louisville, Tulane, and Nevada are the correct answers.

I am starting to speak to groups of adults on “how NOT to become a crazy parent” or “how to act like an adult” when they are in the high school/college space. So far, so good. Most don’t even know they’re crazy until it’s too late…

Animal House dropped on Amazon Prime last week. It’s worth the click(again and again) of John Belushi and his comedic genius! “Food Fight!!!”

Thumbs up! Paola Boivin is back pounding a keyboard!!.  https://www.azcentral.com/story/sports/wnba/mercury/2024/07/19/wnba-all-star-game-phoenix-paola-boivin-arizona-republic-column/74460089007/

I’m energized for the Big 12. Those who live life looking in the rearview mirror miss what’s coming up. Not into waxing romantically about “what was.” Things change, and people move on…

Kenny Dillingham’s radio show will be at the Trophy Bar in Chandler on Tuesday nights at 6 p.m. starting in September. Good spot for Arizona State/college football fans…

Thumbs down! Twister is the number one movie in America, but we know how it ends. It’s like watching Titanic (spoiler: the boat sinks)…

I’ve been asked to speak at the Chandler Chamber of Commerce lunch on August 20th. I am bringing Jay Perry and Claudia Collins for a Women in Sports session.

Look closer at what is happening at 7135 E. Camelback Road, and you’ll find the Fiesta Sports Foundation moving the needle in the right direction. Being a yellow jacket is something to consider. Embracing and going all in on high school girls’ and boys’ football is a smart move that should’ve happened years ago. A few smart hires and fresh blood/ideas have given that group some much-needed life…

Thumbs down!  I hear around town way too much in the broadcast/production industry, “Hire a Cronkite Kid,  they’ll do it for cheap”. Not cool…

Watching Tiger and Phil get blitzed by the course and elements of a Major is still a simple pleasure in life. Colin Montgomerie can pound sand…

Had former Arizona State head coach Todd Graham on the show last week. He wants to get back into the coaching business. We had a good chat

Todd Graham 07-15-24 Full Interview

Thumbs up! Daughter number two had a boulder put on her finger a few weeks back. The guy loves Michigan football, but hey, we all have our hangups. Though give him credit, when I mentioned that I was heading out to the opening of Cardinals practice next week, he wondered if I was excited to see Marvin Harrison Jr., A Michigan man who admires a Buckeye can’t be all bad. I was touring wedding venues in Sedona with him on Friday. I’ve been advised to use the following phrase repeatedly during the next 15 months and not fight it, “yes, dear, you’re right.”…
