Alex Bowman is a simple person. If there are two things that the Tucson-born NASCAR star loves more than anything else, it’s his race cars and animals.
Bowman is a dog dad of two. Finn Bowman is a charcoal Labrador retriever who allegedly took the wheel of Bowman’s virtual car during NASCAR’s iRacing Pro Invitationals and wrecked a multitude of drivers. Roscoe Bowman is a rescued beagle mix and a sporadic spirit no matter where he goes.
The duo has been adorned on the 28-year-old’s real-world car multiple times throughout Bowman’s Cup Series career. Last season, Bowman took over the reins of the legendary Hendrick Motorsports No. 48 car, previously led to seven championships by Jimmie Johnson. With the new ride came a new sponsor to Bowman, Ally Financial.
The two quickly learned they had something in common, a passion for animals. They decided to team up with Best Friends Animal Society, an animal welfare organization, and donated over $160,000 to local shelters across the nation in 2021. Both Bowman and Ally donated $1,000 each to a shelter at every race track market and upped the donation to $10,000 if Bowman claimed a victory, which he did on four occasions.
Best Friend’s goal is to make every community a “no-kill” community by 2025.
Again, Bowman, Ally, and Best Friends team up in 2022, this time donating a combined $4,800 to a local shelter every week and still upping the donation to $10,000 with a win, as he did one week ago at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
The beneficiary this week at Bowman’s home track of Phoenix Raceway, is The Barn House, a shelter that has only been in operation for just over a year. The Peoria-based shelter focuses on the Phoenix cat crisis and also has a facility in Phoenix. The Barn House is family-owned and operated, and relies on donations and volunteers.
