A brand new look with details rooted in prestigious history took the runway at Morgage Matchup Center on Saturday.
In November, the three-time WNBA champion Phoenix Mercury unveiled the franchise’s first-ever rebrand, reimagining the classic planet logo along with a plethora of new icons and wordmarks. To celebrate the Mercury’s season ticket holders, The X-Factor, the defending WNBA runners-ups invited them all to a free brunch at Morgage Matchup Center to take a look at the new merch and new jerseys in person on the runway, alongside a panel featuring Mercury Ring of Honor members Bridget Pettis and Penny Taylor.
The primary logo is a modernization of the iconic Mercury “M,” with an underslant at an angle of 19.97 degrees, referencing the Mercury’s inaugural season, 1997. The logo also features an increased use of purple, plus a sharp right corner at the top of the “M,” referencing the original rings while also symbolizing an arrow to the future for the franchise.
A round “global logo” emblem also gives a nod to the Mercury’s history as a member of the WNBA’s original eight teams. Rings roll behind the main logo, with the “M” dividing the four rings into eight individual lines, symbolizing the eight original franchises.
The Mercury have also included a secondary logo for the first time, featuring an outline of Arizona with basketball seams while incorporating the team’s “MERC” moniker. The set of logos also includes an updated PHX alternate logo which celebrates the X-Factor, the name of the Mercury fanbase as a whole.
The Mercury begin the 2026 season on the road on May 9, with a WNBA Finals rematch against the Las Vegas Aces. The Merc then debut their new identity at home against the Minnesota Lynx on May 12.
