Eric SorensonSeth Robinson figured the move wouldn’t necessarily be a popular one with his classmates. Saying goodbye to Chaparral High School and transferring just five miles south to rival Saguaro.
After playing wide receiver and defensive end at Chaparral the two-sport standout, who also runs track, transitioned to outside linebacker and tight end for the Sabercats. The move has already paid off with a pair of early Power Five offers from Iowa State and Arizona.

At 6-foot-3 and close to 200 pounds, Robinson is the rangy type of athlete colleges look for when developing talent.
“He’s got the prototypical size, frame and length that they like at the outside linebacker position,” Saguaro head coach Jason Mohns said to Sports360AZ.com. “He’ll be a national recruit before it’s all said and done. He does some things that make the coaches go, ‘wow.'”
Robinson’s first offer from the Cyclones, much like his arrival at #SagU, came out of nowhere.
“We were doing ‘Zero Dark Thursday,'” he said to Sports360AZ.com referencing Saguaro’s early morning pre-spring drills and conditioning. “At the end [of the workout] an Iowa State coach pulled me aside, he told me about Iowa State and their facilities. They have a nice business program. I want to major in business. He said, ‘we’d like to offer you.’ I had a big smile on my face.'”
Those same smiles can also be found on Mohns and his coaching staff with the unexpected arrival and emergence of the junior Robinson who is expected to be a key cog in the Cats’ quest for their fifth-straight state championship this fall.
“Seth is a great kid, he’s a hard worker,” Mohns explained. “He loves football and he loves to compete. He wants to get better. We’ve seen that in the weight room and we’ve seen that on the practice field.”

Robinson is also making a positive impact off the field as a student at Saguaro.
“I work up in the front office a couple hours a day,” Mohns said with a grin. “Our front desk lady has been here forever at Saguaro. She’s a great lady but she’s not crazy about every teenager. He’s a teacher’s assistant for her. She said, ‘I got to tell you, the new boy Seth is so nice and so respectful.’ To me that goes a long way.”
The feeling is mutual for Robinson and his new school.
“Everyone at Saguaro has made me feel like family,” he said. “I really feel a part of this whole school.”
As they say, everything happens for a reason…even when a Firebird becomes a Sabercat.
